Travels With My Aunt

Dollar Drama Club's first production of 2020 was the comedy "Travels With My Aunt" by Giles Havergal, adapted from the novel by Graham Greene. This was performed on the 13th, 14th and 15th February 2020 in Dollar Academy's Studio Theatre.

The plot followed the travels of Henry Pulling, a retired bank manager, and his eccentric Aunt Augusta as they found their way across Europe in the 1960s, and eventually to South America. Aunt Augusta pulled Henry away from his quiet suburban existence into a world of adventure, crime and the highly unconventional details of her past.

There were many characters in this play, and the four actors played multiple parts. All four played Henry Pulling, and all four (male) actors each played at least one woman. This was not an invention of Dollar Drama Club; it was written this way.

The play was directed by Linda Rice, and the actors were:

Matthew Pease as Henry Pulling and Aunt Augusta
Stuart Salmon as Henry Pulling, Wordsworth, Detective Sergeant Sparrow, Hatty, O'Toole, Colonel Hakim, Taxi driver and Frau General Schmidt
Damian Sherwood-Johnson as Henry Pulling, Miss Keane, Tooley, Mr Visconti, Turkish policeman, Miss Paterson, Vicar, Policeman and Hotel receptionist
